Misys Healthcare Systems has come out in support of the federal government’s drive for electronic health care records.

“As an industry, I believe we’re making good progress in providing EHR (electronic health care) records across inpatient and ambulatory care settings and in supporting standards for a continuity-of-care record,” said Tom Skelton, president and CEO of Misys Healthcare. “But the quality and safety of patient care in America remains at risk if legislative action to support the nationwide adoption of electronic health care records is delayed.”

Skelton issued the statement after attending the Health IT Summit in Washington, DC last week. Tommy Thompson, health and human services secretary, called for electronic health records.
