If you’ve been reading WRAL TechWire regularly for the past few months, you may have noticed a new weekly roundup of local startup and tech-focused events happening throughout North Carolina. This feature started in November and rolled out weekly to see how readers interacted with TechWire’s new calendar feature, which was unveiled after we redesigned the site with a modern, mobile-friendly interface in December.

In response to demand, TechWire has decided to continue with the tradition in 2018, aggregating the latest happenings around North Carolina every week.

The roundup includes a short write up of each event, along with its location, time, cost and general agenda items. It is broken up into two columns: “The Headliners” lines up events happening within the next month and “On the Horizon” compiles events scheduled for one or two months out.

The interactive calendar accompanies these roundups and includes an overview of each event as described by organizers and hosts. All sorts of events are featured on the page, from conferences and discussion forums, to workshops and lunch n’ learns, to pitch contests and accelerator application deadlines. You can browse through the calendar here.

TechWire has also started publishing an overview of local recurring startup/tech meetups compiled by City of Raleigh Innovation and Entrepreneurship Manager Derrick Minor. You can find the directory here, and be sure to subscribe to Minor’s updates here.

This event-tracking initiative is part of a larger objective for TechWire to expand its coverage to more North Carolina-based startups in 2018. This move started late last year when TechWire modernized the design of the site and brought down its subscription paywall to reach more readers in the community.

The end goal is to provide top-notch, comprehensive coverage not just for startups in the Triangle, but also for regions throughout North Carolina—from the coast to the Blue Ridge.

WRAL TechWire hopes you’ll engage with us in this effort, too. If you’re hosting an event and want to get the word out there, you can have your post published on our calendar and in the weekly roundup at no cost. Just email me at shannoncuthrell@gmail.com with the details and I’ll post your event to the calendar right away and will add it to the next week’s roundup.

And if you would like to partner with TechWire to promote your event in a broader capacity, there are options for that too. Email editor Rick Smith at RSmith@wral.com for details.
