CANTON — A Canton-based brewery has raised $325,000, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

BearWaters Brewing Co. plans to raise another $280,000, or $605,000 in total.

The company did not state what it plans to do with the raised funds.

Founder and CEO Kevin Sandefur signed the document. Using a grant obtained from the Haywood County Chamber of Commerce, Sandefur opened his first brewery after he attended a beer conference in 2009, according to the company’s website.

Initially, his company operated from a warehouse in Waynesville, North Carolina. BearWaters Brewing opened in 2012.

Companies relying on a Reg D exemption do not have to register their offering of securities with the SEC, but must file what’s known as a Form D electronically with the SEC after they first sell their securities.
