RALEIGH — New Jersey-based commercial solutions company Conduent Commercial Solutions will terminate nearly 270 employees at its Raleigh branch in April due to poor business conditions, according to a WARN Notice filed with the North Carolina Department of Commerce.

The 267 layoffs will occur “on or about” April 3. The summary report indicated the branch will not close.

Conduent issued the following statement regarding the layoffs:

“Due to the changing business needs of a client, we are making the necessary yet difficult decision to reduce our workforce at our Sumner Boulevard facility in Raleigh, N.C.  We realize this affects individuals and every effort is being made to ensure that all employees are treated fairly. Employees who apply and meet eligibility requirements will be considered for redeployment.  We will also provide a separation package to eligible employees.  However, the majority of the individuals that are impacted by this WARN notice have been given an opportunity to work with one of our other clients out of this facility.  This decision is unrelated to our plans to open our innovation hub next month, and we are on track to hire the 200 employees we announced at the end of last year.  We currently have more than 5,500 employees in North Carolina.”

The layoffs largely affect the company’s customer care positions as 253 from the division will lose their jobs. Conduent provided the following list of positions affected:

In December, the company announced it would open a global technology and innovation hub in the greater Raleigh area, bringing 200 new full-time jobs to the Research Triangle Park. That office is slated to open in March.

The new global technology and innovation hub in North Carolina will employ research scientists, software developers, researchers and engineers with expertise in the application of data and process analytics, IT security, operations, program management, lab functions, legal, corporate finance and human resources.

Conduent has strong ties to North Carolina, with more than 5,500 jobs held within the state – more than any other in the U.S. – with locations in Raleigh, Cary, Charlotte, Durham, Morrisville and Henderson.

Conduent provides business services from robotic process automation for financial organizations, to patient-centric data analytics for health providers.

Conduent, which trades using the ticker CNDT on the New York Stock Exchange, saw its stock fall by about 12 cents per share Tuesday, nearly a 1 percent decrease to $15.47 from Monday’s close of $15.59.

The company employs more than 90,000 individuals in more than 40 countries, according to its website. It announced last month that it was closing a call center in Indianapolis and laying off 107 workers.

Due to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, companies are required to submit WARN notices to the North Carolina Department of Commerce to announce pending layoffs.

So far in 2018, nearly 1,400 North Carolina workers have lost their jobs through layoffs accounted by WARN notices. Of those, 592 of those layoffs occurred in Wake County, where Raleigh is located.
