The City of Chicago has beamed a video message to Jeff Bezos in an attempt to recruit Amazon HQ2: Beam it to Chicago – with the voice of William Shatner AKA Captain Kirk making the pitch.

The city has made public a promotional video touting Chicago as the best place for Amazon to build its multi-billion-dollar new headquarters and the 50,000 jobs to go with it. Knowing that Amazon founder and CEO Bezos is a Star Trek fan, Chicago recruited Shatner to do the voice over for the video, which was shown privately last fall but didn’t go public until over the weekend.

The video made its public debut after Amazon executives were reported to have toured the Windy City.

Here’s the video:

The video, which was paid for by the city’s economic development agency World Business Chicago, touts the city as “Day 1, Second City.”

Mayor Rahm Emanuel stressed the theme this way to The Chicago Tribune Editorial Board:.

“Our strengths: On Day One, you can get to any market in the world conveniently. On Day One, you can hire anyone you want from some of the top universities in the world. On Day One, your workers can afford to live within 20 minutes — and afford their home in that area. That’s a tremendous advantage.”

Chicago isn’t along among the 20 finalist metros for the project to pitch Amazon via a promotion. North Carolina, for example, pitched Bezos and Amazon with digital ads and signage in Seattle, Amazon’s hometown.
