RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Two North Carolina medical technology companies are among the six chosen to pitch their wares next Monday, April 9, during the inaugural Southeast Region Pitch Event at the North Carolina Biotechnology Center.

Advanced Chemotherapy Technologies, of Research Triangle Park, and RFPi, of Greenville, both NCBiotech portfolio companies, made the final cut to make presentations at the day-long event celebrating med tech entrepreneurship.

MedTech Innovator event

Advanced Chemotherapy, a startup from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has developed a novel device for infusing chemotherapies directly into poorly vascularized pancreatic tumors.

RFPi is developing a non-invasive surgical imaging platform technology licensed from East Carolina University. The technology provides immediate view of physiology and qualifies blood flow during the procedure.

For this first-ever RTP version, NCBiotech partnered with MedTech Innovator, the industry’s nonprofit global competition and accelerator for medical device, digital health and diagnostic companies, as hosts. With the largest platform of its kind, the organization provides best-in-class startups with unparalleled access to expertise and mentorship from decision-making stakeholders across the healthcare industry. In 2018, $500,000 in cash prizes will be awarded.

Other Pitch Events are being held in major med tech cities around the world.

The RTP Pitch Event is a critical step in selecting the companies that will participate in the 2018 global program. It is also an opportunity for entrepreneurs to network and receive feedback from leading players in the industry including manufacturers, investors and providers.

Only medical device, diagnostic, or digital health companies that have not yet closed a Series B are eligible for the Accelerator. Early to mid-stage medical device, diagnostic, or digital health companies are also encouraged to apply and are eligible for the Showcase track of the program. MedTech Innovator does not charge or take equity for participation, and there is no application fee.

The other firms pitching in the RTP event include:

  • Biomedical Acoustics Research, of Orlando, Florida
  • SISU Global Health, of Baltimore
  • Schreis Scalene Cardiotech, of Gaithersburg, Maryland
  • Neuro Device Group
