Research Triangle Regional Partnership, the economic development organization serving the main counties of Central North Carolina, wants to “ready the region” for future expansion with its upcoming State of the Region event.
The program, set for 3-7 p.m. on May 30 at Meymandi Concert Hall in Raleigh, will bring business leaders, investors and stakeholders together to tackle the challenges that need to be addressed in order to make the Triangle more competitive. It will also take a look at the region’s strengths to determine what needs to be done to ensure even more economic growth in the months to come.
The keynote speakers headlining the event are seasoned business leaders Cindy Whitehead and Joel Marcus—both of whom have contributed to the Triangle’s innovation growth significantly.
Whitehead is the founder and CEO The Pink Ceiling, a Raleigh-based investment and consulting firm that also has its own incubator, The Pinkubator. At the event, she will speak about the Triangle’s ability to attract outside life science companies to relocate to the area. She’ll also discuss ways the Triangle can better cultivate a diverse talent pool for the new companies.
Marcus is CEO of Alexandria Real Estate Equities, a real estate investment trust that owns several agtech campuses throughout the country, including RTP’s own Alexandria Center for AgTech, home of the RTP AgTech Accelerator. In his keynote, he’ll offer insights on the differentiators driving the future of economic growth in the Triangle.
The program also includes a panel featuring Winston Henderson, VP and General Counsel of Nano Terra and member of Duke Angel Network’s steering committee, and Clay Thorp, co-founder of Hatteras Venture Partners. The discussion will center around the state of venture capital investments in the Triangle.
A networking reception, serving appetizers and drinks, will close out the event from 5 to 7 p.m.
