RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Today we have more good news about coverage of North Carolina’s booming entrepreneurial ecosystem – we are providing more.

And a special tip of The Skinny’s cap goes to WRAL TechWire’s master-of-all-things events Shannon Cuthrell, who each week presents a package of content that she continuously strives to improve.

While other publications continue to scale back and charge more, WRAL TechWire today alone features information on 90 events across the state plus information about some 80 meetups and organizations in the Triangle and an online interactive calendar that continues to grow.

If there is any doubt that the NC startup ecosystem is booming, the continuing increase in the number of events, conferences and programs should erase it. And bringing readers about those is important if the ecosystem is to launch new ventures, nourish others and see more grow to “exit” just as Raleigh-based Sageworks did last week.

Such coverage is part of WRAL TechWire’s DNA.

Since launch in 2002 as Local TechWire, the overriding mission has been to cover the NC tech sector from startup to global conglomerates.

An essential part of that has been the publication of news about events and programs, from conferences to where entrepreneurs can go to get information, mentoring or education that they need in order to build successful businesses.

Beginning with the launch of WRAL TechWire’s new website on Dec. 1 and the dropping of the paywall – certainly a contrarian move given what’s happening in the media industry – TechWire has steadily expanded its calendar and event previews as well as covering more events and conferences than ever before.

The latest feature is the addition of a special event preview.

Shannon Cuthrell

Each Monday as part of our event and calendar package, Shannon will highlight an event we believe is worthy of a special shout-out – the Black Enterprise Entrepreneurs Summit in Charlotte.

Recently because there are so many events of interest across North Carolina, we separated our weekly preview into two parts: One for the Triangle, one for the rest of N.C., and in some cases the region.

Our “Events on the Horizon” package also continues to grow as Shannon adds additional events and program information.

All these events mentioned in these three posts and more are included in our online interactive calendar.

Finally, each week we post the growing list of Triangle meetups (80, headed toward 100) as compiled by the City of Raleigh’s Derrick Minor.

Let’s let Shannon explain in her words what TechWire is doing:

“Keeping track with our initiative to spotlight North Carolina startup and tech events, WRAL TechWire’s weekly “Headliners” column is now divided into two parts—inside and outside the Triangle.

“Following is a list of May meetups, conferences, workshops, socials and networking events happening in Asheville, Charlotte, the Piedmont Triad, and other areas throughout North Carolina.

“To find out what’s happening this month in the Triangle, check out this post.

“Another post previews hot events coming up in June, accompanied by a preview of the Black Enterprise Entrepreneurs Summit at the Charlotte Convention Center. Recurring monthly meetups are also featured in a separate post.

“These columns are an extension of our interactive calendar of tech and startup events. If you’d like to suggest an event to be added to the calendar, feel free to send me an email.”

Be sure to let her know. She listens –  as does TechWire.
