RALEIGH — The chief executive officer of open source software company Red Hat Inc. saw a 22.1 percent increase in total compensation during the company’s 2018 fiscal year.

James Whitehurst received $13.6 million in total compensation for the fiscal year, up from $11.1 million in the previous year, according to a filing Monday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

While Whitehurst’s base salary remained the same at $1 million for each year, his stock awards increased to $10.1 million in 2018 from $9.1 million in 2017.

In addition, his nonequity incentive plan compensation increased to $2.5 million from just less than $1 million in the 2017 fiscal year.

The filing also disclosed that Whitehurst is receiving a 10 percent increase in his base salary to $1.1 million in the current fiscal year.

Executive Vice President Paul Cormier, who is also president of products and technologies, saw his total compensation rise 10.75 percent to $6.6 million.

Red Hat reported revenues of $2.9 billion in the 2018 fiscal year, up from $2.4 billion in revenue in 2017.

Its net income for the year was $258.8 million, up slightly from net income of $253.7 million in 2017.

Red Hat will hold its annual shareholders meeting on Aug. 9 at 8:30 a.m. at its headquarters, 100 E. Davie St., in Raleigh.

The company’s shares closed Monday at $139.77, down $2.67, or 1.4 percent. The shares fell 12 percent in one day last week after Red Hat projected revenue and earnings for the second quarter below expectations.
