DURHAM – Infinia ML, a fast-growing startup in the arena of artificial intelligence and related technology, is the “Best Machine Learning Company,” according to AI Breakthrough.

The organization earlier this week recognized global leaders in artificial intelligence (AI) earlier this week. And Robbie Allen, the founder of Automated Insights who now serves as CEO of Infinia, welcomed the recognition.

“At Infinia ML, we’re focused on using machine learning to create real business impact for our clients,” Allen told WRAL TechWire. “To us, the AI Breakthrough Award for “Best Machine Learning Company” is a validation of that focus.”

AI Breakthrough recognizes achievements in AI platforms, Deep Learning, Smart Robotics, Business Intelligence, Natural Language Processing, industry specific AI applications and others. The 2018 awards drew some 2,500 nominations from a host of countries worldwide.

Allen defines machine learning as “a specific type of artificial intelligence that is the most widely applicable in commercial settings. For us, we are focused on making business impact.”

“Renowned for their deep technical understanding of AI, machine learning and neural networks, the Infinia ML team has earned one of our marquee awards,” said James Johnson, managing director of AI Breakthrough, in a statement.

“Infinia ML is unlocking new solutions and opportunities at unprecedented speeds, helping companies make the most of machine learning in their business.”

The firm, which has drawn investment support from Silicon Valley, is also adding customers.

“We’ve signed several Fortune 500 companies and are already on a multi-million dollar run rate for the year,” Allen told TechWire recently.

Its fast growth also is triggering a move to new office space.

“We’re growing our client list and our team roster, and in fact, we’ll soon be moving to a bigger office,” Allen explained.

“We’re at about 20 people now in a downtown office building, but our new space in RTP will be able to accommodate up to 70.”

So, why did Infinia win this award?

“I’m continually impressed by our team of data scientists and software engineers,” Allen explained. “Our technical leader is Chief Scientist Larry Carin, who is Duke’s Vice Provost for Research and one of the most published machine learning experts in the world. Across the many industries and use cases we’ve explored, I’ve yet to encounter a machine learning problem where our team didn’t feel they could make a positive business impact. “

Infinia  works with clients in several industries, from manufacturing to healthcare. Expertise and capabilities include 3D image modeling, anomaly detection, natural language processing, recommendation engines and object detection.
