CARY – A “skin” for a character in Fortnite is living up to its name for Epic Games – it’s a public relations “calamity.”

Epic’s new season for its globally popular Fortnite got off to what the Cary-based firm admitted was an “embarrassing” start Thursday with some moving parts that the gaming community immediately branded as “boob physics.”

A “skin” of a female character Calamity featured breasts that clearly moved in what gaming news site IGN described as “exaggerated.”

Skins are defined by WhatIs as “a graphic or audio file used to change the appearance of the user interface to a program or for a game character.”

Epic told IGN: “This is unintended, embarrassing, and it was careless for us to let this ship. We are working now to fix this as soon as possible.”

The Calamity physics were spotted and tweeted by user @Agony. As of Friday morning the tweet and embedded video had drawn some 177,000 views.

Fortnite is entering its sixth of what Epic calls “seasons” of competition. The game has well over 100 million players, is available across multiple gaming platforms in what Epic has called the future of gaming, and has generated hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue for the privately held company.
