DURHAM – The NC IDEA foundation has selected 24 emerging startups from across North Carolina as semifinalists for its latest round of grants that are worth $50,000.

Winners of the grants will be announced in November.

The funds are non-dilutive.

“We are pleased by the diversified entrepreneur population reflected both demographically and geographically in the group of semi-finalists moving forward,” said Thom Ruhe, President and CEO of NC IDEA, in a statement. “We had a difficult task in narrowing down the competitive field of applicants, but look forward to learning more about the group moving forward in the next phase of the process.”

The semifinalists were selected from among 158 applicants.

This is the 26th round of so-called SEEDD grants which typically are awarded twice annually.

“The semi-finalists have been invited to submit a full proposal with greater details by mid-October,” NC IDEA noted.

“Finalists will then be selected to present before a review panel comprised of experienced investors, industry experts and entrepreneurs.”
