“Durham has a rich heritage fostering disruptive technology companies and is widely known as a hotbed of enterprise IT talent and the home of a vibrant software development community,” said Matt McDonald, vice president of engineering at Nasuni, in the announcement.  “The city and surrounding area addressed our needs perfectly and the Triangle’s colleges and universities offer an exceptional source of talent we can tap in the future.”

The new operation, which is located in the Measurement Building at 404 Hunt Street, will be the base for engineering and support teams, software developers, quality assurance engineers, and technical customer support.

Nasuni focuses on what it calls “cloud file services” and offers a patented solution known as UniFS. The system “stores all files in private or public cloud object storage, caches active files wherever fast access is needed, and automatically correlates what customers pay with the frequency of data access.,” according to the company.

The Research Triangle area represents a market opportunity, Nasuni added. “The expansion … reflects the growing demand for its multi-cloud platform that enables enterprises to store, protect, synchronize, and collaborate on fast-growing unstructured data,” the company said.

Nasuni launched in 2009.
