CHARLOTTE — New Jersey-based Conduent Commercial Solutions LLC will lay off approximately 61 employees from its Charlotte location, according to an advisory notice filed with the North Carolina Department of Commerce.

Conduent works with companies to provide a variety of business services to consumers. The impending layoffs stem from Conduent’s desire to cater to a change in business needs of a client.

The majority of the terminations are customer care employees. The layoffs will occur around March 29.

“Due to the changing business needs of a client, we are making the necessary yet difficult decision to reduce our workforce at our Whitehall Park facility in Charlotte, North Carolina,” said Sean Collins, senior director of communications for Conduent.

“We realize this affects individuals and every effort is being made to ensure all employees are treated fairly. We will provide a separation package to eligible employees.”

Conduent, a spin off from Xerox Business Services, has strong ties to North Carolina, with more jobs within the state than any other U.S. location. Conduent has locations in Raleigh, Cary, Charlotte, Durham, Morrisville and Henderson.

The company laid off nearly 270 employees from its Raleigh branch in April 2018. More than 250 of those employees were also from the customer care division.

Due to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, companies are required to submit WARN notices to the North Carolina Department of Commerce to announce pending layoffs.

Conduent’s stock closed Tuesday at $12.67, down 0.31 percent.
