RALEIGH – If you are a software developer and have certain skills such as Java or Linux then you are among the most needed in the North Carolina information technology job marketplace.

Demand for software developers across the state in February soared by 72.9 percent year-over-year to nearly 7,000, according to the latest N.C. Technology Association monthly IT Jobs Trends report.

Leading the specific skill set needed is Java at 6,225.

Overall, IT job openings in North Carolina are climbing toward 30,000 – a 40 percent jump from 2018, NC TECH reports.

  • Network + Computer Systems Administrators – 3,171 (+46.4%)

  • Computer User Support Specialists – 2,605 (+30.8%)
  • Information Technology Project Managers – 2,602 (+55.8%)
  • Computer Systems Engineers/Architects – 2,182 (+70.9%)
  • Information Security Analysts – 1,978 (+24.6%)
  • Computer + Information Systems Managers – 1,680 (+71.1%)
  • Web Developers – 1,616 (+48.5%)
  • Software Quality Assurance Engineers – 1,128 (+64.0%)
