DAVIDSON — Davidson-based Curtiss-Wright Corp. announced Tuesday it had acquired Massachusetts-based Tactical Communications Group LLC for $50 million in cash.

Tactical Communications is a private company that designs and manufactures tactical data link software solutions for military communications systems. The company was founded in 2001 and employs about 50 people.

It generated about $15 million in sales in 2019, primarily in the aerospace defense market.

“This acquisition yields significant opportunities for growth by enhancing our existing flight test instrumentation offering with complementary tactical data link processing software, analytics and visualization capabilities, and also providing penetration into the tactical data link test, simulation and training markets,” said Curtiss-Wright CEO David C. Adams in a statement.

Curtiss-Wright provides products and services for commercial, industrial, defense and energy markets. The company employs 9,000 people worldwide.

Curtiss-Wright’s shares closed Tuesday at $114.02, down $1.10.
