RALEIGH — Raleigh-Durham International Airport is set for a 48-acre corporate aviation campus that will include 21 hangars and serve jet-flying clients.
Western LLC — a Colorado-based commercial real estate firm that designs and builds aviation-specific property — and RDU announced the hangar project following approval at an Airport Authority Board meeting Thursday.
“The campus has already received interest from potential corporate clients,” says Brad Henderson, CEO of Western, “and we feel this could make a big economic impact in the area.”
Hangars on RDU’s first public-private partnership — which is adjacent to the SAS Institute hangar in the northeastern end of RDU — will range in size from 12,100 square feet to over 30,000 square feet.
Each hangar will be customized to fit tenant needs, according to a marketing brochure released by Western: Features include epoxy floors, garage door access and the option to attach office space.
The lease term is 25 years.
Western will develop, design, construct and lease-back the hangars to clients, and oversee the facility’s maintenance.
“The new campus will support local customers with existing general aviation needs,” says Michael Landguth, president and CEO of the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority, “and also help recruit corporate jetsetters whose companies may be considering entry into the Triangle.”
