East Coast Game Conference brings professionals, gaming representatives to the Triangle

The Triangle has more than 40 local game studios in the area, including some of the largest in the world.

The East Coast Game Conference is the largest event on the coast for game developers, and it’s in the Triangle this week.

Professionals from all over the world will be attending, which means gamers can learn how they can get scholarships and jobs in the gaming industry.

E-Sports is giving $72,000 in scholarships to Barton College for their new E-Sports team.

Conference attendees also get to hear from speakers like Warren Robinett, a well-known game developer.

“It is a huge learning opportunity – probably the best place you’ll find where you get so much knowledge in one place in such a short amount of time,” said Walter Rotenberry, co-president of the Triangle Game Initiative.

Conference organizers said several game companies are hiring.

“A lot of companies are ‘gamifying’ things – I mean, that’s the way of the future – how to virtually train people,” said Paxton Galvanek, a representative from Funcom Company. “How to gamify things – I mean, it’s a big industry – there’s a lot of benefits to it.”

A tournament pass is $15 for the entire conference. Expo passes start at $40.
