CARY – Just ahead of the new John Wick movie, Epic Games’ own Game Store will be the exclusive launch site for a new video game title with plenty of “gun fu style” as described by The Hollywood Reporter is under development based on the popular Wick assassin character.

No release date was announced when publisher Good Shepherd Entertainment announced John Wick Hex” on Wednesday.

Keanu Reeves portrays the deadly assassin in three “John Wick” films, the third of which “John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum” launches on May 17.

The exclusive is another victory for Epic which built its own quickly growing Game Store late last year as a challenge to other companies and the commissions/fees charged to game developers. Epic also announced its acquisition of the Rocket League franchise and it continues to enjoy global success with its Fortnite franchise.

Described as a “fast-paced, action-oriented strategy game,” Hex will offer plenty of strategy and action, based on the video trailer released with the announcement.

“Created in close cooperation with the creative and stunt teams behind the films, John Wick Hex is fight-choreographed chess brought to life as a video game, capturing the series’ signature gun fu style while expanding its story universe,” the publisher said, according to The Verge.

“Players must choose every action and attack they make, while considering their immediate cost and consequences. Every move in John Wick Hex feels like a scene from the movies, and every fight contributes to your progress on the job and requires precise strategic thinking.”

Movie production firm Lionsgate is participating in the game development with Mike Bithell, a very well known and successful gaming veteran, overseeing the project.

Epic has the exclusive for PC users. A console version also will be developed.
