RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK — The global EdTech firm Pearson is on the hunt for local talent after it opened a new technology hub in the Research Triangle Park.

On Wednesday, the company held its grand opening of the 31,000-square-foot office located off of Page Road in Durham. Among those in attendance was special guest Timothy Downs, VP for Economic Development at the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce

At present, Pearson is a 24,000-employee company that operates in 70 counties worldwide — with about 150 workers already based in the Triangle. The company is now expected to add 100 new employees within two years.

“Pearson’s goal is to help shape the future of learning by transforming how we deliver learning content and assessment for millions of students and educators,” Albert Hitchcock, Pearson’s chief technology officer, said in a release. “The technology team is fundamental to realizing this vision, so I am delighted to be expanding our base here in North Carolina, where we can find some of the very best technology professionals in the U.S.”

The company added it was a strategic decision to base the office near the local university system.

”What’s particularly exciting is our close proximity to three of our country’s leading colleges and to the huge pool of tech talent in the region,” said Marykay Wells, chief information officer, was quoted as saying. “We are looking forward to building a diverse and skilled team in North Carolina, and finding people who share our ambition to shape the future of education here at Pearson.”
