RALEIGH – Want to create video games for a living? Well, you’re in luck.

Ubisoft is hiring, big time.

The French video game giant, which is currently in town for the Raleigh Six Major at the Raleigh Convention Center this weekend, is also hosting a job fair as part of the festivities.

The offerings: Some 1,300-plus open positions across the board including jobs as game programmers and designers.

Even better, the pay is good.

The average base salary for a Ubisoft gameplay designer is around $91,000, according to Glassdoor.

A game programmer can make even more at around $129,000-$141,000.

“We’re expecting approximately 3,000 attendees over this weekend,” Ubisoft spokesperson Anthony Acosta told WRAL TechWire. “We’re humbled by the our fans good spirits and great passion.”

The job fair is part of a week-long event featuring 16 teams from around the world playing Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege, a popular first-person shooter game.

It’s developed by Triangle-based Red Storm Entertainment, a subsidiary of Ubisoft, and is part of growing craze called Esports (also known as electronic sports, e-sports, or eSports).

Global esports revenues are expected to hit $1.1 billion this year, according to market intelligence company Newzoo. That’s a nearly 27% increase compared to 2018.

The Triangle is angling to become one of the industry’s major hubs.
