RALEIGH – Next month, thousands of open-source entrepreneurs, developers and designers, experts and enthusiasts will join together in Raleigh for the annual All Things Open conference.

Now seven years running, All Things Open is one of the Triangle’s most popular conferences and has become widely known as the largest open technology event on the east coast. Last year was the largest-ever All Things Open, with 4,079 attendees hailing from 40 states and 24 countries.

All Things Open 2019 takes place Oct. 13-15 at the Raleigh Convention Center and features over 200 sessions including technical presentations and case studies, keynotes, evening socials, product demos, panels, startup pitches, educational workshops and seminars. There’s also a round of extended workshops that are free for attendees, held at the Marriott Hotel.

Keynotes will focus on a range of topics relevant to the open-source audience—from Amazon and open-source to machine learning and full-stack development to team-building, workplace culture and diversity. The keynote speakers include:

Every year, All Things Open becomes more diverse and continues to shine a spotlight on inclusion in the open-source community. This time around, nearly 80 female, non-binary and transgender speakers have been added to the lineup.

In 2018, conference organizers introduced a new three-hour program to discuss inclusion in the open-source industry. This year’s “Inclusion in Open Source and Technology” session has been extended to a half-day time slot, taking place October 13 from 1-5 p.m. The free event includes a series of 10-minute talks focused on inclusion topics, plus a screening of the documentary Progress: The Power of Community, followed by a discussion with the producer, Jennifer Cloer.

All Things Open draws thousands as tech world prepares for more disruption

Another highlight of All Things Open 2019 is the fourth annual Startup Pitch Competition, slated for October 14 from 12:30-2 p.m. It’ll feature five teams presenting short pitches to a panel of judges.

Even more startups will be featured at IoT Demo Night, the fourth annual startup showcase hosted by RIoT. The free showcase features over 65 exhibitors and live demos with startups focused on IoT, 5G, virtual reality and augmented reality. As reported by WRAL TechWire, last year’s demo night drew a crowd of 1,000 attendees, one of the largest turnouts RIoT had experienced.
