DURHAMMomentum, the coding school founded and led by former Iron Yard executives, is on a roll after securing $2.75 million in funding by Clarkston Consulting.

Momentum’s founder and CEO Jessica Mitsch confirmed that the transaction closed on Wednesday. She said the injection of funds would go towards strengthening its existing program, which offers immersive full-time and part-time courses to people looking to start a new career in technology.

She also plans to expand its training offerings within companies and organizations.

“It’s probably a little too early [to name specific companies,” Mitsch said, but added she was impressed by Clarkston’s portfolio of companies and customers.

“We thought they brought something different to the table,” she told WRAL TechWire. “They are going to help us be introduced to a broader audience.”

Momentum is helping to empower coders of all backgrounds to achieve their goals.

To date, Momentum has raised $3.15 million since 2017. To keep pace with its growth, the startup is also hiring.

“We actively recruiting our first full-time marketing specialist,” said Mitsch. “We’re also going to be adding to our instructor team and we’re going to be adding somebody to launch our career services program, which we have staff working on right now.”

Tom Finegan, CEO of Clarkston Consulting, also welcomed the strategic partnership and said new training opportunities are essential as the workplace rapidly evolves with technological innovation.

According to the September 2019 jobs report from NC Tech, there are approximately 13,000 open technology positions in the Triangle region of North Carolina.

“Our clients need to reinvent how talent is obtained and how positions are filled,” he said in a statement. “Visionary companies are deploying new and inclusive strategies to find, develop, and retain the best talent and Momentum will be a key part of that talent strategy.”

Momentum was founded in 2017 by Mitsch and Clinton Dreisbach, former Iron Yard executives, and is based out of American Underground’s Durham campus.
