RALEIGH – North Carolinians were preoccupied with two things in 2019 – hurricanes and the rapper Nipsey Hussle.

At least, that’s what our Google searches reveal.

Those were the top most-researched topics on the search engine this year, according to new data released from the tech giant this week.

Google’s 2019 Year in Search showcases people, topics, events and places that captured the world’s attention and, in particular, the imaginations of those living in the Old North State.

It also pulled together the top trending searches for Raleigh, Charlotte and North Carolina — and across the board, Hurricane Dorian topped the lists.

Given the back-to-back flooding events the state has seen in recent years with Matthew (2016), Florence (2018) and Dorian (2019), it’s no wonder that North Carolinians are obsessed with the weather.

But Nipsey Hussle? For those not in the know, he’s the 33-year-old rapper who was shot and killed earlier this earlier this year. Apparently, we also like our rap music.
