RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Get Spiffy is on track to fuel even more growth after securing the backing from Shell Ventures.

The RTP-based on-demand car care, technology and services company led by serial entrepreneur Scot Wingo today announced the closing of a strategic investment from the corporate venture capital arm of Royal Dutch Shell.

The exact terms of the investment were not disclosed.

“We see a lot of value in the convenient and efficient services that Spiffy can offer for car owners and fleets owners alike,” said Brian Panoff, Investment Director at Shell Ventures, in a statement. “Their experience in emerging fleet services, such as online and peer-to-peer car sharing, ride-sharing, and e-commerce auto sales aligns well with our focus on the changing nature of vehicle transportation and ownership.”

Added Jim McCormick, Shell’s vice president of US Lubricants Sales: “We are really excited about this new relationship. Spiffy is already transitioning their oil change customers to our quality Pennzoil and Shell Rotella brand products, and we look forward to working with them to identify additional pathways for reaching fleet customers and consumers.”

The company also could be in a position to help firms and individuals confronting the coronavirus.

“We actually do have several offerings that can help decontaminate vehicles,” Wingo told WRAL TechWire. We also have an antimicrobial treatment that kills future germs including viruses from sticking to surfaces.”

The move caps a busy few months for the company, which recently opened a new office in the San Francisco Bay area and closed on a number of strategic acquisitions. Last June, it also secured more than $10 million in new venture capital.

Get Spiffy is now in more than 20 markets with more than 200 vans and 300 technicians.

“Spiffy was founded to bring a convenience-oriented and eco-friendly focus to the car wash and detail market. Over the last five years, this has expanded towards a total car care solution, covering oil change, tires, and other maintenance services,” said Spiffy CEO, Scot Wingo, in a statement. “Establishing this new partnership with Shell is pivotal as we look to expand our service offerings for existing customers and fleets as well as introduce Spiffy to new markets.”

As consumers demand more choice and convenience, Spiffy can provide a modern method for vehicle maintenance. By eliminating the traditional friction of car maintenance, customers can enjoy a quality service at work or home. With their Fleet Management as a Service model, Spiffy improves vehicle uptime and asset utilization for fleets nationwide, allowing fleet employees to focus on the core business.

Founded in 2014 by Wingo and Karl Murphy, Spiffy is on the mission to redefine the car care experience everywhere. Spiffy offers a variety of hand car washing, advanced detailing, oil change and maintenance service options. Every service is performed on-site at fleets, office parks, and residences using the Spiffy Green system. Customers can schedule in less than two minutes with the Spiffy app.
