DURHAM – If you have lost your job and want to become an entrepreneur with hopes of launching a new career, American Underground wants to help.
The startup hub is launching a new program – Landing Spot – that it says will help workers make a “pivot.”
“Losing your job, particularly during the current crisis, can feel like freefall. But change, while unsettling, can also be an opportunity — and the American Underground has always been about opportunity,” says Adam Klein, Chief Strategist, American Underground. “Landing Spot will provide the foundation, community support, and hands-on guidance to pursue entrepreneurship and launch your startup idea. We’ve right-sized the program — up to five selected — to make sure the participants get the kind of attention that can potentially lead to a successful launch.”
Beginning April 16, applications are being accepted for the program which includes:
- Free three month virtual membership to the AU with access to all member benefits and support.
- Participantion in AU’s summer Startups 101 program, a series of workshops and speakers designed to provide a cross-functional insight into the world of entrepreneurship.
- Option of in-person events and coworking depending on social distancing guidance.
- Program begins May 14.
Applications will be accepted through May 5.

“An AU committee will select at least five participants based on the clarity of the proposed startup’s mission as well as the degree to which the founder expects to participate in Landing Spot’s offerings (the more robust the participation, the better),” AU says.
