RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK — Two Triangle startups with a passion for transforming the food chain value are now finalists in the inaugural AgTech Innovation Competition hosted by Alexandria LaunchLabs.

TerMir and TreeCo, both based in Raleigh, are among seven agtech startups selected from around the country.

The prize: $100,000, which consists of a $75,000 cash award and a $25,000 membership to Alexandria LaunchLabs –  a startup platform for early-stage life sciences and agtech companies located at the Alexandria Center for AgTech in RTP.

“A judging panel comprising seasoned investors and industry experts will select the winner based on the quality and differentiation of the company’s technology, management team and business plan, among other criteria,” Alexandria said in its release.

Founded in 2016, TerMir is developing an antibacterial agent to treat invasive citrus greening disease in US citrus. The product can be applied via irrigation water or as a spray on foliage application.

TreeCo, meanwhile, is the research and development engine of the forest industry that combines tree genetic insights with the power of CRISPR for a healthier world and sustainable future. TreeCo has intellectual property affiliated with NC State University.

Each finalist will present a closed-door, virtual pitch event on Tuesday, May 12.

LaunchLabs provides move-in-ready office and laboratory space, shared equipment and services, creative amenities, and access to capital through its Alexandria Seed Capital Platform. The facility is also home to UPL, Indigo Ag, and Boragen.
