LabCorp launches fingerstick blood test for COVID-19 antibodies

LabCorp says the new test “detects IgG antibodies to the virus that causes COVID-19 and provides highly specific results equivalent to LabCorp’s other antibody blood testing methods.”

The test uses the EUROIMMUN test developed in Germany which received Emergency Use Authorization by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

“LabCorp completed independent validation studies on this testing,” the company said.

“The COVID-19 IgG antibody blood test detects the presence of antibodies to the virus and can help determine if an individual may have been exposed to the virus. While antibody tests are helpful to understand if an individual has developed antibodies and a potential immune response, antibody testing should not be used as the sole basis to diagnose or exclude infection.”
