RALEIGHGlobal Data Consortium, which provides customer identity verification services, has raised roughly $3.5 million in equity and options, according to a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

Two investors contributed to the round, which is capped at $5.89 million with $2.4 million remaining to be sold. The filing indicated the use of funds would go towards the payments of salaries.

Global Data Consortium is a global identity verification platform. It provides ID verification for more than 50 countries around the world through a single application programming interface. It works with companies in e-commerce, financial services, online gaming and the sharing economy.

The Raleigh-based company is cofounded by William “Bill” Spruill, a well-known African American entrepreneur in the local Triangle ecosystem.

He is an active angel investor as a member of Triangle Angel Partners, a $2.6 million early stage angel fund. He’s also a long-time board member on the Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED).
