RALEIGH – Two Black-owned businesses in the Triangle and another five in Charlotte are $10,000 richer thanks to WeWork.

In the wake of recent global racial protests, the co-working giant has launched its own Black-owned Business Grant program. It’s awarding a total of $2 million in funding to Black owners who operate out of WeWork locations around the country.

The co-working space giant announced this week that Premiere Wellness and STATProg, both based out of WeWork’s Raleigh office, as among its 200 recipients.

Premiere Wellness is founded by Susan Lovelle, a former professional ballerina, a plastic surgeon for 22 years, and a “life-long health nut.” Her functional medicine business specializes in an integrated, personalized approach to wellness that goes beyond the standard “eat less, exercise more, think positive thoughts” advice that pervades the internet, it said on her website.

STATProg, meanwhile, is a statistical programming and data analysis service to clients across the United States. Founded in 2012, it works with “agility and efficiency” to support your company’s research and development (R&D) projects.

Additionally, WeWork named we five recipients from Charlotte. They include:

  • Aurora Rogue LLC: Aurora Rogue partners with small businesses to reimagine what is possible for their digital initiatives by challenging their status quo to implement digital technology and strategic marketing solutions that drive quantifiable results to the bottom line.
  • Blackhawk Mortgage: We are a Veteran and Black-owned Mortgage brokerage Firm. We partner with several large lenders to provide the ease of a mortgage process with a local community feel.
  • Boundary Street Advisors: Boundary Street Advisors serves people and invests in communities; we learn each client’s story and identify their real estate goals through full service commercial real estate services
  • Capitalwize, LLC: Financial planning company serving primarily people of color. We currently have educational initiatives to serve those who can’t work with us in a one on one capacity as well as an initiative to help people of color get started in investing for less than $50 per month.
  • Byrd Counseling & Consulting, PLLC (Katrice L. Byrd, therapist and counselor): At Byrd Counseling & Consulting, PLLC, we understand that life happens. When it does, you don’t have to navigate through those difficult times alone.

WeWork partnered with mentorship platform Ureeka to launch this initiative and said it received “hundreds of applications.” The grant awards $10,000 to each recipient, along with resources for networking and growth from WeWork Labs.

As part of the initiative, WeWork has shared a new video on social media to share the founder’s stories.
