RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Serial entrepreneur and investor Scot Wingo knows a recovery when he sees one as demonstrated over the years at ChannelAdvisor and pother ventures. And after the pandemic hammered his newest business Get Spiffy in March he positioned thre vehicle maintenance firm for a bounc back. Now he and his management team are seizing the moment with a major expansion.

Spiffy is taking its fleet maintenance service into six more markets, from coast to coast, increasing its reach by nearly a third.

New markets are Baltimore, Dover, Palm Springs, San Diego, St. Louis and Tucson.

The company now offers services in Atlanta, Baltimore, Charlotte, Dallas-Fort Worth, Denver, Dover, Fort Lauderdale, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Miami, New York, Orlando, Palm Springs, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Raleigh-Durham, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle-Tacoma, St. Louis, Tampa, Tucson, and Washington DC.

“Our COVID adventure has been a bit of a roller coaster – we had a huge drop March 12 with our office park, residential and fleet customers,” Wingo says.

“With the introduction of disinfection, residential recovered quickly, then starting in May, our fleet customers saw  a rapid, V-shaped recovery that we’re still experiencing.

“Based on their demand, we’re opening up these new markets with a fleet-orientation, but hope to be able to offer consumer services as well down the line.”

The news follows Spiffy’s move into franchising announced last month.

RTP startup Get Spiffy on the rebound and ready to franchise

Wingo, as Spiffy’s CEO, furloughed some 200 people when COVID hit. He then pivoted the firm to capitalize on a surge in demand for vehicle disinfection.

Now the fast-growing startup is looking to get a bit back more to the basics of the company’s mission.

“Fleets of all sizes are dealing with the unique circumstances caused by COVID-19, which has made preventative maintenance into a more challenging task,” said Zach Zeller, SVP Fleet Business Development at Spiffy, in the expansion announcement. “As a result, our clients are asking us to bring our fleet management services to cities where they need to get vehicles back on the road quickly and safely.”

Spiffy provides a variety of offerings through its Fleet Management as a Service, including cars and trucks.

“Medium and heavy-duty trucks makes sense for both sides. There’s an increased demand for domestic shipping, which requires a flexible mobile option to ensure these vehicles are ready for the road. Our clients want to protect their drivers and their vehicles. A well-maintained and disinfected fleet is key to making that happen,” Zeller said.
