RALEIGH – Defense contractor DynCorp International is cutting jobs at its operation in Elizabeth City.

However, some employees may transition to civil service jobs with the Coast Guard, so how many people will be affected is not yet clear, according to a layoff notice filed with the state of North Carolina.

“This is not a temporary layoff,” the company said.

DynCorp listed 132 positions as being affected, but the company said it had been told that the Coast Guard plans 52 hires.

The change takes place Feb. 4.

“DI’s operations at Elizabeth City, NC will continue; however, the scope of work will decrease,” wrote Jeff Berry Sr. Program Director at
DynCorp International, in the notice.

“DI has received a tentative list of positions that may be affected, however, we will not be able to determine final impact until the customer has completed their recruiting activities.”

DynCorp recently was acquired by Amentum, another federal contractor.
