WRAL TechWire has been making weekly updates to our Triangle Startup Guide to keep content fresh and relevant as entrepreneurs are seeking new resources to help grow their businesses.

This week, we added two new sources of funding for UNC Chapel Hill-affiliated ventures:

Carolina Research Ventures

In the venture capital section of the guide, we added Carolina Research Ventures (CRV), a group that invests in seed to early-stage ventures founded by UNC-Chapel Hill faculty, trainees and staff.

To date, CRV’s investments have ranged from $100,000 to $600,000, with reserves for follow-on investments. The fund is managed as a joint venture with Durham-based VC firm Hatteras Venture Partners.

UNC Center for Health Innovation Funding

In the competitions/grants/other funding sources section of the guide, we added UNC-Chapel Hill’s Center for Health Innovation, which offers pilot funding opportunities for UNC Health and UNC School of Medicine faculty and staff innovations.

Since 2013, the center’s Innovation Pilot Awards program has awarded more than $1.28 million to 28 teams.

Heads up: Applications are currently open for the 2021 round of Innovation Pilot Awards. The deadline is Jan. 19.
