RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – GRAIL, the California-based biotech firm targeting cancer, is moving ahead quickly with plans to open a massive 200,000 square foot laboratory in RTP and is looking to hire “more than 100 workers” this year for a variety of positions.

The firm, which plans to hire some 400 people in all, also has hired a leader for the RTP operation. He is Andrew Crenshaw, “a native North Carolinian with more than 20 years of experience in the clinical and biomedical research industry, recently joined GRAIL as vice president of operations and RTP site director,” according to the company.

“As a native North Carolinian, it is an honor to be part of GRAIL’s expansion to our great state,” Crenshaw said in a statement. “For those passionate about joining a team pursuing a game-changing and potentially life-saving mission, we encourage you to apply for an open role.”

GRAIL announced plans for the RTP expansion last year with an investment of more than $100 million. The facility is expected to open this spring.

Average pay for jobs is expected to be $71,000.

Jobs available include:

  • laboratory scientists
  • technologists
  • equipment engineers
  • quality engineers
  • automation engineeers
  • supply chain and warehouse personnel

A virtual “oepn house” for the facility is set for April 27.

“Building our RTP team is an important step forward in making our novel multi-cancer early detection blood test widely available to patients and healthcare providers across the country,” said Matthew Young, chief operating officer and chief financial officer at GRAIL. “We are already seeing the benefits of tapping into the large pool of skilled talent and innovative spirit the Triangle offers, and we look forward to growing our team with people who are excited and inspired by our mission to detect cancer early.”
