NewCo is the operating title for the new venture which is expected to be spun off as a seperate company later this year.

IBM says the new venture “will have twice the scale of its nearest competitor in managed infrastructure services,” already “has relationships with more than 4,600 technology-intensive, highly regulated customers” and has a business backlog of “more than $60 billion.”

IBM sees the managing and modernizing customer-owned infrastructures as a $500 billion market opportunity.

Big Blue itself will focus even more intensely on cloud, hybrid cloud and artificial intelligence opportunities.

The spinoff could have a significant impact on IBM’s operations in RTP where the business group involved in the new venture has a significant presence.

“These executives bring great global expertise as we build a purpose-led culture for our new company,” said Schroeter in a statement. “Elly and Maria have deep knowledge of the industry, and they share our unwavering commitment to our talented employees and to the success of our customers. I know they will play a pivotal role in the leadership team we are building to deliver excellent value to customers and shareholders.”
