RALEIGH – U.K.-based technology and product design company Cambridge Design Partnership on Friday officially opened a research and development center in Raleigh. And the company is hiring.

The office is located at 801 West Morgan Street.

“We have seen a strong increase in demand from our US clients in the past ten years, with more than half our business today coming from America,” said Aki Laakso, a partner and the director of Raleigh Operations for the firm.  “Our new Raleigh facilities, with cutting-edge labs, a design studio, user observation suite, full machine shop and pilot manufacture space, allow us to more effectively deliver world-changing innovation in the US.”

The refurbished building will serve as the company’s headquarters in the United States.

Prior to opening this building, the company was a member of Raleigh Founded, according to a spokesperson of Raleigh Founded, but it is not now an active member.

Cambridge said Raleigh was chosen due to the existing biomedical innovation sector, access to regional, national and international transit, and the availability of talent.

That’s important because the company plans to hire.

Cambridge plans  “a major recruitment drive, with positions open across a range of disciplines, including mechanical, electrical and software engineering, human factors, quality, manufacturing and industrial design,” according to a statement.  The company plans to launch an internship program for early-stage professionals as well.

Thirteen open positions that will be based in Raleigh are listed on the company’s careers page. They include roles for software engineers, mechanical engineers, business development consultants specializing in drug delivery devices, industrial designers and design engineers, human factors specialists, and a healthcare usability and research consultant.
