MOORESVILLE – Lowe’s is looking for new employees and plans to hire more than 50,000 in one day.

“National Hiring Day” is set for next Tuesday. Those interested in one of the seasonal, part-time or full-time jobs can apply in person at a Lowe’s store between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The company says it will “hire more than 700 new associates across its Raleigh-Durham stores,” a company spokesperson said.

Some offers will be made “on-the-spot,” Lowe’s said in an announcement Thursday.

But Lowe’s is facing increasing competition for workers. The hiring spree comes as the US economy continues to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and unemployment numbers drop in North Carolina as well as across the country.

One Lowe’s store manager told WRAL the pandemic has brought on increased business.

“Everyone has started new projects that they didn’t have time to do before,” said Mike Hollowell. “So it’s made us extremely busy. We’re very grateful and proud of that. Today’s all about that.”

Lowe’s has numerous stores across the Triangle and North Carolina.

Applicants must be 18 or older.

Jobs include cashiers, retail associates, stockers and receivers, merchandising service associates, drivers, supervisors and “Pro” sales roles.

“National Hiring Day has been a simple and convenient way for any job seeker to apply for an open role, get to know us and begin a career with Lowe’s,” said Janice Dupré, Lowe’s executive vice president of human resources. “Our associates drive our success in making homes better for all, and we are committed to enabling everyone who touches our business to thrive and contribute to that success.”

The company noted that no reservation or resumes are required for National Hiring Day, but “job seekers can RSVP and learn more about the event and career opportunities” at this website:  corporate.lowes.com/national-hiring-day
