RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – If you are interested in pursuing a career in North Carolina’s growing biomanufacturing sector, mark your calendar for Thursday, June 24.

That’s when Merck and BioNetwork, the life sciences training initiative of the NC Community College System, will host a virtual career fair.

The event, to run from 1 to 6 p.m., is part of Merck’s aggressive goal of filling 100 positions at its Durham and Wilson manufacturing and supply facilities. The company has set an August deadline for meeting its goal.

One of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies, Merck is currently hiring for technician, engineering and quality roles at both locations. A list of open positions and applications can be found here. BioNetwork encourages candidates to review the list of available positions, explore the position descriptions and apply before the event. However, an application is not required to participate in the event.

Creating a biopharma-focused resume

The virtual event is an opportunity for job seekers interested in biomanufacturing positions at Merck not only to get their resumes in front of the right managers, but also to meet them one-on-one during the virtual event.

To kick off the process, job seekers must first submit a resume to the BioNetwork team, which will review and edit all resumes to ensure the applicable skills and education are highlighted. Candidates can also view BioNetwork’s series of e-learning modules that provide resume and interview tips.

Once finalized, the resumes will be submitted to Merck and candidates will receive a link to the event.

“BioNetwork is reviewing resumes to help candidates develop strong biopharma resumes that showcase their transferable skills,” said Vernon Shoaf, senior director of BioNetwork learning solutions team. “For best results, we encourage candidates to reserve their spot on our Merck partner page and begin the process as soon as possible.”

On the day of the event, job seekers will also have an opportunity to interact with hiring managers who will introduce them to Merck.
