RALEIGH – In a partnership with Green Places, Raleigh-based digital transformation firm Brooks Bell will become carbon neutral.

But the partnership goes beyond that, too.

Brooks Bell will also offset one metric ton of carbon per month for each of the firm’s clients, the company announced today in a statement.

For 2021, the company’s commitment means that it will offset 374 metric tons of carbon emissions for the 2021 business year.

“Going carbon neutral connects directly to our company mission of continuous iterative improvement,” said Gregory Ng, CEO at Brooks Bell. “However, neutral is not enough. We are proud to announce with this partnership that we are not only offsetting our own carbon footprint, but have taken our commitment a step further by offsetting one metric ton of carbon per client each month. Our hope is this additional step will inspire more incremental improvement in the world.”

The company partnered with Green Places, founded by serial entrepreneur Alex Lassiter, to measure its carbon impact.  Green Places uses research from UC Berkeley’s Cool Climate project and provides an estimate of a subject organization’s carbon footprint, as well as compares the organization to other, similar firms.

“Brooks Bell is taking the sustainability pledge and running with it,” said Lassiter in an interview with WRAL TechWire this week.  “Not only are they implementing green practices for their own company, but they’re planning to encourage sustainability to their entire roster of clients, too.”

“They’re really using their strengths and resources to maximize their sustainable impact, which is the true purpose our company is aiming to accomplish,” added Lassiter.

With high-profile investor backing, Triangle startup helps small businesses fight climate change

Green Places is backed by notable entrepreneurs and investors in the Triangle, including Scot Wingo, and recently raised $975,000 in funding ahead of launching its product offering.

“Smaller companies have not had a practical way to do their part to reduce the effects of global warming,” said Lassiter in a statement.  “Brooks Bell’s vision to become carbon neutral is strengthened by their mission to provide carbon offset capabilities to their network as well.”
