CARY – MetLife is raising the company’s minimum wage to $20 per hour for all U.S. employees, the company announced this week.
The global insurance company maintains a customer service and operations center in Cary. Many technical professionals also work from the Cary office, and the company currently lists at least 80 job openings on its careers website, including many technical roles.
The company previously had a minimum wage of $15 per hour, according to Bloomberg Law.
“By raising our minimum wage, we’re offering security and confidence to our people just as we do our customers,” said MetLife CEO Michel Khalaf in a statement.. “It is our employees who help us deliver on the promises we make, so their well-being is paramount.”
The company employs some 2,400 people in its Cary office, according to a company spokesperson.
“We want to provide a highly competitive wage that will help us deliver the most remarkable customer experience in the business,” said Merrilee Matchett, executive vice president and head of Global Customer Service and Operations, in a statement sent to WRAL TechWire. “We’re committed to Cary and to paying a wage that provides security for all of our people who bring the voice and the face of MetLife to our customers and our community,” said Matchett.
