Plenty of technology and life science events and deadlines are on tap for October. Several events will be held in person or in a hybrid format.

Keeping up with WRAL TechWire’s ongoing initiative to track events happening across North Carolina, here’s a look at what’s to come in October:

This free monthly interactive webinar provides participants with an overview of NC TECH’s activities, resources and member offerings.

Application Deadline: Duke Institute for Health Innovation Project Funding

Oct. 1

The Duke Institute for Health Innovation offers an annual funding cycle to support innovative projects from faculty, staff, trainees and students of Duke University and the Duke University Health System. The program targets projects that aim to address critical issues encountered by care providers and patients. For the 2022 cycle, proposals can request funding in the range of $25,000 to $70,000.

Downtown Techies Raleigh Happy Hour

The Downtown Techies Happy Hour event series is back at Raleigh’s Lynnwood Brewing Concern. Join to network with peers.

Code for Durham: Civic Hacking Session

Code for Durham brings together technologists, designers, developers, data scientists, map makers and activists to collaborate on civic technology projects. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month.

NCBIO 27th Annual Meeting

Disrupt Winston Pitch Event

This event will feature pitches from local startups offering solutions for the future of nutrition and agriculture, health and well-being, and aviation and aerospace. The winners will get a $50,000 grant and support from Venture Winston Grants when they join the inaugural cohort in November.

Triangle Biotech Tuesday

Triangle Biotech Tuesday is a monthly meetup that connects scientific professionals across the RTP/greater Triangle area. Join to network with professionals from different industries. The group meets on the second Tuesday of every month.

2021 Outdoor Economy Conference

The annual Outdoor Economy Conference convenes CEOs, business leaders, federal agencies, local officials, parks, economic development groups and land managers to network and discuss relevant topics in the outdoor industry.

Application Deadline: NCBiotech Innovation Impact Grants

The North Carolina Biotechnology Center’s Innovation Impact Grant funds the acquisition of research equipment for university core facilities involved in life science research. Up to $150,000 may be requested.

Big Launch Challenge 2021

Oct. 13-14

For this year’s Big Launch Challenge, the Launch Place is teaming up with Angel Capital Association’s Angel University to host a two-day learning and networking event for angel investors and entrepreneurs. The event will culminate in the Launch Place’s annual pitch competition, in which startups present their products/services for a chance to win $15,000. More TechWire coverage here.

All Things Open 2021

All Things Open will convene thousands of open source industry leaders, professionals and enthusiasts from around the world for dozens of sessions, including workshops, keynotes, networking and education opportunities. The event will be presented in a hybrid format.

This event will feature a talk from Nobel Laureate Jennifer Doudna, a member of UC Berkeley’s departments of Molecular and Cell Biology and Chemistry, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, and more.
