CHARLOTTE – Cox Communications has completed the purchase of Segra’s commercial enterprise and carrier business, the company announced this week, noting in a statement that the investment involved in the deal is one of the largest in the company’s history.

The deal was announced in April, though financial terms were not disclosed.

As a part of the deal, Segra’s parent company, EQT Infrastructure, sold the commercial services segment of the company.

NorthState and Lumos Networks, providers of broadband internet access to about 200,000 residential and business in North Carolina and in Virgina, were not a part of the Cox acquisition.

Instead, NorthState and Lumos Network will operate as an independent company, “with the continued financial support of EQT Infrastructure,” according to a statement.

The company said in its statement that it has a “bold growth plan” and a strategy that will include expanding its service to new communities, including underserved ones.

Segra acquired NorthState in a deal worth $240 million in May 2020.
