DURHAM – BioSkryb Genomics, which launched three years ago, is expanding its footprint in the Triangle, and plans to double employee headcount by the end of 2022, the privately-held company announced today.

The new facility is a 19,500 square foot facility along Meridan Parkway in Durham, a spokesperson for the company told WRAL TechWire.

The building will serve as the company’s headquarters and an innovation space, the company said in a statement, “designed for collaboration and company growth.”

It will include new equipment and new facilities to support the company’s additional research and development projects, in-house testing services, product manufacturing and packaging, as well as quality control, the company stated.

The former facility was 2,500 square feet, a spokesperson told WRAL TechWire.

Along with moving to a new building in Durham, the company announced intentions of doubling its current workforce, noting in the statement that it plans to bring headcount to “a total of 50 highly skilled professionals, including genetic researchers, chemists, software engineers and developers, program managers, and quality control personnel.”

“This new facility not only provides us an opportunity to grow our team but also deliver higher innovation to our customers, as we give them an unparalleled view of the specific genetic changes at the cellular level that are driving disease,” said Jay West, Ph.D., CEO and cofounder of BioSkryb Genomics in a statement.

The company’s primary template-directed amplification technology (PTA) is “a novel whole genome amplification approach that amplifies the genomes of single cells in a more accurate, uniform, and reproducible manner than previous methods,” the company stated.

It also provides an end-to-end workflow solution, BaseJumper, enabling client users to “explore single-cell human genomic datasets,” the company said.

The company spokesperson told WRAL TechWire that no state or local economic incentives were a part of its decision to move to a new facility.
