RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Hiring is picking up across the nation and in the Triangle.

Local hiring activity is trending up on major job boards. Azuna.com, for example, shows 44,109 total jobs in Wake County, which is nearly 4,000 more than last week’s count. Dice.com, which tracks tech jobs, has 2,370 more job openings in Chapel Hill than it did a week ago, along with +1,426 additional jobs in Raleigh and +1,464 jobs in Durham.

Indeed.com also reported more Triangle listings.

However, jobs listings did fall on LinkedIn and Glassdoor.

Openings are plentiful in the Triangle, particularly in fields like software engineering, manufacturing, IT, and life science research and development, as today’s Jobs Report shows.

The local trend follows national and North Carolina data.

The national job market got a major boost last month, as the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on Friday.  In October, 531,000 nonfarm payroll jobs were added nationwide, the largest monthly jump since July. The BLS’s establishment survey data reports notable gains across leisure and hospitality (adding 164,000 jobs), professional and business services (+100,000 jobs), manufacturing (+60,000), and transportation and warehousing (+54,000). The national unemployment rate also fell to 4.6% from 4.8% in September.

The North Carolina Department of Commerce also released its September county-level employment data last week, showing that the Raleigh and Durham-Chapel Hill metropolitan statistical areas had the lowest unemployment rates of all other metros statewide, at 3.1%. Overall, North Carolina’s unemployment rate (not seasonally adjusted) stands at about 3.8%.
