RALEIGH – North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper is among a bipartisan group of nine state leaders calling for Congress to complete passage of legislation calling for $52 billion to boost the U.S. semiconductor industry.
The so-called CHIPS act has been passed in the Sentate but not the House.
“We understand that the House of Representatives has its own priorities with respect to the policies and programs included in USICA, we hope the two chambers will now come together quickly to find common ground with respect to this legislation, including full funding for the CHIPS Act re-shoring provisions, as soon as possible,” the governors wrote, according to Reuters news service.
North Carolina-based semiconductor manufacturers include Durham-based Wolfspeed and Triad-based Qorvo.
Other governors signing the letter are from Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Alabama, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Kansas and California.
