ROCKY MOUNT – ABM Industries Incorporated will no longer be the on-site contractor for janitorial services at a Rocky Mount facility of Hospira, and will lay off 82 employees who worked for the company at that facility on December 14, 2021, according to a required notice filed with the North Carolina Department of Commerce.

The notice, which was filed by the company under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) act, fulfills the obligation that a company has to file a notice when they have announced plans to either close a facility or conduct a personnel layoff.

The notice that ABM filed with the Department of Commerce, which was obtained by WRAL TechWire upon request, notes that the layoffs are expected to be permanent.

But, the notice also reads “However, we understand that another vendor, Compass Cleaning Solutions (“Compass”) will be assuming this janitorial contract following ABM’s departure and may retain some or all of ABM’s departing employees.”

According to the notice, 70 cleaners, seven leads, two technicians, two attendants, and one account manager will be affected by the layoffs.

The company notified employees on October 7, according to its filing.  In that communication to employees, the company noted that though Compass may offer employment, it “is not guaranteed and we do not have any information about such employment at this time.”
