MORRISVILLE – A dream comes true – well, another dream – for Lenovo. The world’s top PC manufacturer is expanding its relationship with DreamWorks Animation.

While financial terms weren’t disclosed, the deal announced Wednesday means Lenovo will be providing “high-end” computers to DreamWorks Animation staff. The deal follows the earlier installation of an on-premesis computing infrastructure for the animation giant’s content creation.

The expanded relationship is a multi-year contract, the companies announed.

Lenovo workstations such as the ThinkStation P620 and ThinkStation P920 will be installed for DreamWorks. They will be used to help produce DreamWorks’ upcoming movie “The Bad Guys.”

Lenovo’s top North America exec: A ‘stellar quarter’ with more good news coming

“At DreamWorks, the ability to operate our workflows at the speed of our creative thought process is critical in capturing those instant moments of expression that shape the unforgettable experiences our animators and creative professionals develop. Workstations need to exceed the demands of our artists’ relentless imaginations. Hardware needs to be an enabler; harnessing performance and speed to meet their expectations,” said Bill Ballew, Chief Technology Officer at DreamWorks, in a statement. “We had the opportunity to test Lenovo’s ThinkStation P620 workstation and realized it’s a game changer for our workflows. Built on the AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO architecture, the ThinkStation P620 drives new and improved performance for multi-threaded application environments that our team can take full advantage of.”

The Lenovo machines will be used for:

  • 3D modeling
  • high-performance animation
  • creating “hyper-photorealistic renderings”

and more, the companies said.

We’re excited to expand our partnership with DreamWorks Animation and equip them with workstations that help accelerate their increasingly demanding workflows,” said Rob Herman, Vice President of Lenovo’s Workstation and Client AI Business Unit. “Our workstation collaboration further exemplifies Lenovo’s ability to holistically support our customers with the most advanced technology solutions available, allowing them to innovate faster and transform their respective industries.”
