Thermo Fisher Scientific, a corporation that provides services to scientific labs and clinics, will be establishing a new facility in Mebane.
The new manufacturing base is part of multi-million dollar contract with the U.S. government to ensure that labs have enough pipette tips for testing.
“The new manufacturing facility will help the U.S. meet future demand surges for vital laboratory products while bringing more high-quality jobs to North Carolina,” according to Mark Stevenson, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Thermo Fisher Scientific.

The new site is expected to employ 150 to 200 new jobs in manufacturing, engineering and business operations jobs, according to a press release from Orange County officials.
Thermo Fisher currently employs North Carolina residents in Asheville, Durham, Greenville, High Point and Raleigh.
“With its strategic geographic location and proximity to a diverse talent base, Mebane is an ideal location for this new facility,” Stevenson said in a statement.
North Carolina Commerce Secretary Machelle Baker Sanders said that Thermo Fisher is another addition to North Carolina’s “diverse life science workforce.”
The large corporation brings in an annual revenue of around $35 billion a year and employs more than 90,000 people across the world, according to their website.
“Thermo Fisher continues to expand its footprint in North Carolina, reinforcing our state’s global reputation as a prime location for life sciences companies,” Gov. Roy Cooper said in a statement.
