RALEIGH – Governor Roy Cooper will be honored as the North Carolina Cleantech Champion by the Research Triangle Cleantech Cluster (RTCC). The Cleantech Champion Award recognizes an individual who exemplifies a deep commitment to advancing the cleantech industry in the state of North Carolina.
The Cleantech Innovation Awards, including Cleantech Champion, are judged by leaders and executives from the cleantech industry and public sectors. Governor Cooper and other Cleantech Innovation Award winners will be honored at an awards ceremony and networking reception on Wednesday, December 8 from 4:00 to 6:30 pm at Market Hall in Raleigh. The Governor was nominated and selected for this prestigious award based on his demonstrated commitments to protecting natural resources. His nomination outlined his administration’s extensive investments in driving a clean energy economy in North Carolina, with accomplishments including:
- Executive Order 80, which focused on protecting the environment while growing the clean energy technology sector
- Establishment of the North Carolina Climate Change Interagency Council
- Development and implementation of the North Carolina Clean Energy Plan
- Carbon Reduction Policy Evaluation and North Carolina Energy Regulatory Process (NERP)
- Executive Order 218, which focused on opportunities for offshore wind generation and jobs in North Carolina
- Signing the bipartisan Energy Solutions for North Carolina bill (NC House Bill 951).
Governor Cooper plans to attend the Awards Ceremony and speak about the importance of clean energy and clean technologies for North Carolina’s future prosperity.
“My administration is committed to fighting climate change and making sure North Carolinians get the good paying jobs that clean energy brings,” said Governor Roy Cooper. “With a strong executive order and new legislation that requires carbon reduction, we have the tools to make it happen.”
RTCC will celebrate cleantech opportunities created through state policy by honoring the bipartisan group of sponsors and legislative leaders who worked together to pass NC House Bill 951 with a special Cleantech Policy Leadership Award.
“It has been a great year for cleantech, and RTCC is excited to come together in person to honor and celebrate everything we have accomplished as a cleantech community,” said Deb Wojcik, RTCC Executive Director. “This is an incredibly important time for industry, government, and academia to come together to address the challenges and opportunities ahead of us as we pursue a clean energy future.”
