CHARLOTTE – The mortgage company Interfirst, headquartered in the Chicago area, will lay off 77 North Carolina workers from the company’s Charlotte office, according to a required notice sent by the company to the North Carolina Department of Commerce.

The letter, which meets requirements set forth by North Carolina’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN Act), does not provide the rationale for the company’s decision.  The notice is a layoff notice, not a facility closure notice.

The company states that 49 mortgage originators, 10 national account managers, seven retail sales managers, seven transaction coordinators, and other positions will be affected.

The company notes in the letter, dated Nov. 16, that it will provide notice to each affected employee and that it will “ensure that any employees who are laid off are paid all earned wages and agreed upon benefits at the time of termination.”

The company notice states that layoffs will begin the week of Jan. 21, 2022, and occur within two weeks of that date.

A LinkedIn search indicates there are about 400 total employees for the company, and shows 67 people whose profile lists a geographic location within the Charlotte metropolitan area.
